Advocacy Agenda
Giving everyone in the Upstate a fighting chance at recovery
Breaking Down Barriers to Recovery
In the U.S., health and patient advocacy organizations have long provided support to those affected by chronic conditions like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. FAVOR Upstate follows this tradition as part of a national recovery advocacy movement. Our goal is to support individuals affected by substance use disorders to help them achieve and maintain long-term recovery.
FAVOR removes barriers, eliminates the stigma associated with substance use disorder (SUD), mobilizes the community, and helps people change their lives.
We are families and friends of those restoring their health through freedom from SUD. By organizing and speaking out, we support individuals who struggle with SUD and those who are empowered by long-term recovery. Join us in our efforts!
Our Board Advocacy Issues:
- Improving the way that we treat substance use disorder from a short-term approach to long-term recovery.
- Bringing substance use disorder and mental health treatment into regular healthcare.
- Eliminating discrimination against people with substance use disorder throughout all areas of society.
Other Advocacy Resources:
- The Recovery Bill of Rights states that all Americans have the right to recover from substance use disorder to alcohol and other drugs.
- The Know Your Rights Brochure details protections against discrimination in employment, housing, education, healthcare, and other public accommodations.
- The Advocacy with Anonymity Brochure outlines how to stand up for our rights while honoring the anonymity tradition of twelve-step groups.
